New page

The Archdiocese of Aurindell, located in central Ensor, is perhaps the most idyllic part of the kingdom -- at least in appearance, with its alternation of low rolling hills and fertile floodplains, punctuated by the many smaller streams that emerge from the High Hinterlands to pour their waters in the Meander. The uplands are wilder, and considered forbidding by those not accustomed to the deep lakes and high pinnacles, and the barren moors that only unfurl their banners of wildflowers in the spring. But like their countrymen in the Highmoor, the denizens of the remoter portions of Aurindell find beauty even in wilderness.

This region takes its name from a legendary city of the same name, which is said to have been a great citadel in ancient days, perched high upon the side of a mountain overlooking the peaceful valley. In this lofty realm humans and dwarves were said to live and work together, ruling over the lands below them with wisdom and care. Legend tells that the city exists even today, but that it may only be found at certain times of the year and under certain conjunctions of the stars, by someone of great virtue or in great need. And even then, it is told, such a person may only find it once, so that when they leave they will never be able to return to the city again however long and hard they may seek it. Other finely built ruins scattered across the county, particularly in the foothills of the High Hinterlands, are likewise said the be the work of these people. The neighbouring Couranti sometimes like to claim the ruins as their own, but that's clearly nonsense as everyone knows the Couranti were nothing but wild barbarians before they were conquered and civilized by true Ensormen from the heartland.
