The Marzum Despotate was a state that once occupied the present-day Sirdabi province of Marzum. Having been for some time informally allied with the Elukoi lands of southeastern Ruvera, the despotate was officially founded in 1158 B.D. when the great-granddaughter of legendary hero Ro Falconstrike married into the royal line of Elukos. Its capital was the city of Roshul, located in the mountainous center of the country, but the despotate was most famous for its construction of the Blue Reef Citadel, from which its highly skilled fleets were able to exert nearly full control over maritime trade and travel through the Gulf of Adwa. While integral to Marzum's commercial might, this control spurred the development of overland trade routes through eastern Idiri that bypassed the Gulf, which in turn led to the flourishing of the Rassi people there and the foundation of great new trade emporia like the city of Omrazir. The despotate lasted for some four hundred years before internal weakness and external pressure from the Irzali Empire and Yalanbari resulted in its collapse.
