The rabbit is a fairly widespread creature across Ruvera and in many other parts of the world as well. Wherever it occurs it can sometimes make itself a nuisance to human communities by persistent depredations on their crops, but it is also valued as a source of meat and fur, whether wild-caught or raised domestically.

Ruvan Rabbit

The Ruvan rabbit is, unsurprisingly, the most common rabbit across the continent of Ruvera, where it is not generally thought of as the "Ruvan" rabbit at all, but simply the very ordinary and ubiquitous rabbit. It is only in areas where it has been introduced that it is thought of particularly as Ruvan, and in the coastal areas of north Idiri where they are now common, they were in fact originally brought over by Ruvan settlers.

Wild Ruvan rabbits range in color from light brown or grey to a ruddy-tinged red, with agouti patterning that helps them blend into their local environment. Where they domesticated and raised their pelts may display a wider range of colors and patterns. Wild rabbits are an important source of protein for poor and rural folk, and the fur is valued for both its appearance and its warmth, particular as lining for cold-weather garments.

Striped Rabbit

The striped rabbit is native to the lands of southern and southeastern Riendu and some of the islands of the far eastern seas. Their coat is quite unusual, being marked with black or dark brown stripes upon lighter colored fur, often russet, a rich red-tinged brown, or a soft buff. They tend to be a little smaller than the Ruvan rabbit, with noticeably smaller ears as well. Although neither native to Raziya nor naturalized there, striped rabbits are commonly raised in the coastal town of al-Sakhna, where many people of Irulao heritage dwell.
