Couranty is a type of high-grade woolen cloth produced primarily from the wool of so-called "Downy" sheep raised in the Couranti Downs of Ensor. The cloth is tightly woven and very fine and smooth to the touch, with an almost silky finish. It is usually a medium- to heavyweight fabric, suitable for cool-weather shirts and blouses as well as for outerwear such as coats and overdresses. It drapes well and is also quite wrinkle-resistant, making it as practical as it is attractive.
Couranty is one of the chief exports of Ensor's important cloth trade.
