Umberstone

Umberstone is a type of igneous rock formed from the welding together of ash and other superheated ejected volcanic sediments. It is medium to dark reddish-brown in color, somewhat porous, and relatively soft. Due to the heat through which it is formed and its high glass content, umberstone sometimes has a soft vitreous luster.

Though not widespread, umberstone is relatively common in Raziya where volcanic rock of all kinds is plentiful. The most renowned deposit of umberstone is the bluff that makes up the Shining Hill in the Raziyan capital of Omrazir, and in fact it is a large component of much of the hillside upon which the city sits. As an abundant local resource, the stone has historically been in wide use as a building material in Omrazir, particularly in the older sections of the capital. It is also not uncommon to find buildings carved directly from the living rock of umberstone outcrops. Examples of such construction include not just the Shining Hill, but also the Razmani Enclave and the lower structure of the Temple of Storms.
