The half of Omrazir known as Dawn lies on the east side of the River Tamrasset and is the older part of the city. Dawn is characterized by noticeable extremes of wealth, ranging from the refined enclave of the Kingfisher District overlooking the river to the decaying White City set atop the Shining Hill. It is also home to the largest part of the city's indigenous population, a mix of the Tessouare, Razmani, and Yehani peoples who have inhabited the area since ancient times.

Most of the east city's architecture consists of adobe or baked-brick structures of two to four stories, arranged cheek by jowl and penetrated by narrow winding streets and still narrower alleyways. The terrain is somewhat gentler than on the city's steep west side, allowing more room for these buildings to spread out in a blanket across the broad descent of the hillside. The overall downward slope of the hill is however interrupted by numerous stony ridgelines and knolls, with the Shining Hill being the largest and most prominent of these.

Dawn is home to some of Omrazir's oldest and most venerated features, including the Wali Djabeli Cemetery, the People's Plaza, the Jumana Bimaristan, and of course the great Temple of Storms which has been central to the community since its earliest days. Although the west side of Dusk may be the modern city's center of culture, learning, and influence, it is the people and places of Dawn who most truly represent the ancient heart of Omrazir.

Districts

  • Bloody Quarter: The neighborhood in which the majority of the city's Yehani population resides, home to the Yash-nalim Temple and the genteel Fountain Square market.
  • Dampstone Close: A small community built above the subterranean course of the Tamrasset, noted for its artesian well in the main plaza.
  • Hospital District: The district containing the Jumana Bimaristan and numerous associated facilities for the care of the sick and aged.
  • Kingfisher District: The old and still elegant neighborhood that is home to Omrazir's oldest and proudest lineages.
  • Temple District: The site of the towering Temple of Storms, consecrated to the Idiri goddess Nirzali as well as to the Prophet's wife Adwa.
  • Wali Djabeli Cemetery: The city cemetery which offers striking views of Omrazir, where the mausoleum of the great holy man Wali Djabeli can be visited.
  • White City: The site of the original Elam Rassi in its glory days, now a derelict neighborhood rife with poverty, drugs, and illicit activities of all sorts.

Thoroughfares

  • Via Fortunis: The Way of Fortune, a heavily traveled route on Dawn's south side connecting the Bazaar of the Nine Winds to the southeastern Nomads' Gate. It is also the major artery linking the White City, the Kingfisher District, and the many other neighborhoods of Dawn to the bazaar and the central Via Magna.
  • Via Maris: The Sea Way, forming the chief east-west artery on the north side of Dawn and linking the city center with the Temple of Storms, the Hospital District, and the northeastern Maysa Gate. Continuing east along the coast, it eventually reaches the port of Al-Sakhna.
  • Via Nubilis: The Way of Clouds, an east-west route running directly from the Via Maris to the Temple of Storms. In long-ago days it was the main thoroughfare of the original eastern city.
  • Via Sanguis: The Bloody Way, winding east from the north end of the Via Magna, across the River Tamrassat via Rickety Bridge, and eventually on to the Bloody Quarter of the Yehani.
  • Via Oscura: The Hidden Way, often called the Smugglers' Road, running north-south to connect Dawn with Curlew Beach.
