Description
The Pearl Diver is a hidden gem, whose outward calm and practicality may conceal an unexpected depth and turbulence. They are a strongly intuitive sign, often influenced by what they simply feel to be so, and sometimes seem to be guided more by gut feeling than logical thought. Nevertheless they have a sure instinct particularly when it comes to helping others, and in good times and bad alike they are both reliable and resourceful.
Though less militant and spirited in their guardianship than the Shield, Pearl Divers are still highly driven to protect others in their own way. Their guardianship most often comes in the form of nurture, as the Pearl Diver seeks to soothe emotional cares and smooth out obstacles. As natural-born carers, Pearl Divers may find rewarding work in teaching, medicine, horticulture, husbandry, pastoral care, or simply in parenthood. They have a knack for spotting the good points in others, and helping to bring that good to the surface and manifest in useful ways.
Despite their close relationships with other people, Pearl Divers are not a sign that finds ready expression in words, and they count on their deeds to speak for them. Although they do not necessarily try to conceal themselves, nevertheless their innermost thoughts and feelings often go overlooked by others. They rely on other people to notice if something is amiss with them, and will often feel hurt and resentful if this fails to happen. But when a Pearl Diver's efforts are rewarded with respect and appreciation, and they are reassured of how much they are valued -- when they feel that they are valued as they value others -- there can scarcely be a better friend and ally.
The Dissonant Pearl Diver
The Pearl Diver reacts most strongly to the needs of the people it cares about, and as it tends to have a big heart, it finds itself often adapting and changing according to the circumstances of those around it. Divers always try to put on a good face for others, appearing cheerful and strong when those whom they care for are discouraged or vulnerable. Their own emotions are deep and often contradictory, and indeed sometimes distressing when they threaten to overwhelm the Diver's focus on others. However they are not often ruled by their feelings, as they are overall an active sign that only infrequently gets bogged down in excessive introspection.
The Pearl Diver in the Heavens
The Pearl Diver constellation consists of nine stars, forming a swimmer with outreaching arms and slightly bent legs. All nine stars are of moderate and fairly equal brightness. Although not part of the constellation itself, the brilliant white star Iriolis represents the pearl for which the diver is reaching. It is best seen in the summer, reaching its zenith in the fourth month of Jirguz.
