Amunati cat
The Amunati cat is a breed of domestic cat native to Amunat. Often simply called mau, meaning "cat" in the ancient Amunati tongue, the cat is widespread throughout that province but can also be found nearly anywhere in the Sirdabi Caliphate. The Amunati themselves once held it in the highest esteem, treating both temple cats and pets with a mix of deference and affection, and mummifying them upon their death. They continue to be very fond of the breed today, sometimes even keeping a "mosque mau" as they once had cats in their temples.
The Amunati cat is a distinctly elegant breed, with a svelte body and relatively long legs and tail. Its coat comes in several colors -- rust, silver, copper, and gold especially -- but is always covered with well-spaced medium spots. The cats have slightly rounded faces with large triangular ears and round green eyes, and their foreheads feature close striping in a marked 'M' pattern, giving their brows a furrowed look as if they are contemplating something slightly worrisome.
Maus are somewhat aloof in temperament, perhaps befitting of a creature once accorded such respect. But they can be won over by scrupulous care and affection, and are very much attached to those fortunate people whom they choose to accept as friends.
