Description

The Badger is independent in both thought and deed, preferring to work diligently on its own while pursuing bold new ideas. Having no need for the limelight, Badgers are content to labor behind the scenes with little recognition for their accomplishments. Partly this stems from their own self-confidence (some might say arrogance), and partly from their generally asocial inclinations which make the opinions of others largely a matter of indifference to them.

The Badger can be single-minded in its dedication to experimentation or invention, and will generally focus on only one project at a time, meticulously working through it step by step. Although the Badger is both curious and observant, it does not usually have the dizzying array of interests of its fellow intellect, the airy Sunspider. As it tends to concentrate on one project at a time, so it typically devotes itself to a single field as well, while simultaneously displaying great talent for taking ideas and techniques from other areas and adapting them to its own. In fact despite the Badger's overall focus, it too enjoys joining ideas in unexpected ways and building bridges between concepts and fields which other less ingenious signs might consider incompatible.

Although the Badger is happy to pursue its projects without the aid of others, if it is able to find a like-minded partner, they it becomes glad to share both its ideas and its work with someone whose opinion it actually values. Badgers can in fact form strong friendships and lasting bonds, and will ferociously defend those whom they care for. However, Badgers are also mistrustful, suspicious, and generally skeptical of society and institutions. Due to their dogged persistence and their dislike for novelty, Badgers can also easily find themself dug into a rut. They can greatly benefit from a friend or colleague from one of the more adventurous or changeable signs, who can lend them some much needed spontaneity.

The Resolute Badger

The Badger's resolute nature comes out in its ability to harmonize contradictory ideas, and also in its dynamic combination of physical and mental activity. Despite its strong interest in intellectual endeavors, the Badger is a surprisingly physically active sign as well. Requiring comfort as little as it does society, it can often be found swimming, climbing, traveling long distances, and sleeping rough in all terrain and weather. Badgers enjoy exercising their bodies as well as their minds, and tend to have strong constitutions.

The Badger in the Heavens

The Badger constellation is an eight-sided polygon of eleven stars, with three additional stars that make up its front paws and short tail. It is a moderately bright constellation with a single very bright star, blue-tinged Onyr, at the crown of its head. It is best seen in the summer, reaching its zenith in the third month of Jinniyah.
