Cliffs of Paradise

The Cliffs of Paradise are a long ridgeline that makes up the eastern border of Raziya. Plunging several hundred feet in a sheer drop to the Gulf of Adwa, they limit the province's access to the gulf to the small fishing town of El Gedz. Their landward side is no less forbidding, their arid western face being nearly as high and just as dizzyingly steep as the seaward one.

When viewed by sea from the opposite side of the gulf, the cliffs are reported to display a hazy shimmer all along their tops, which at times becomes an image of tall vegetation or even the spires and towers of distant buildings. Coming closer to the cliffs causes this phenomenon to vanish, not least because proximity to the tall cliffs makes it impossible to see whatever might rest upon their flattened heights. Legends, therefore, have designated the unseen land atop the cliffs to be the site of the Singing Gardens of Paradise, a reputation augmented by the fact that travelers through the Hall of the Wind on the landward side of the cliffs have reported hearing brief snatches of beautiful music carried on the ever-present current of wind.
