Hall of the Wind

The Hall of the Wind is a very long and narrow canyon running between the Tamrasset Massif and the Cliffs of Paradise in Raziya. Spanning much of the Rassi Plateau and waterless except for a few springs well hidden in the steep slopes of the surrounding cliffs, the canyon is little traveled save by a handful of scholars and adventurers curious about its secrets. At its far southern end lie the Foundering Sands where jinn are rumored to dwell, while the Cliffs of Paradise tower on the western side, their heights unreachable by any known trail. The canyon is named for the winds that flow strongly through it during every season, the damp breath of the chill north wind in the winter and the hot blast of the south wind in the long summer months. Sometimes, it is reported, the wind carries with it snatches of music, ethereal and beautiful beyond telling, which are said to waft down to earth from the Singing Gardens of Paradise. In many places the walls of the canyon are also covered with curious carvings, some enigmatic and primitive, others huge and exquisitely executed, their existence only hinting at the long-ago presence of forgotten peoples.
