Maleah
Maleah is a dusty village nestled in the foothills of the Great Thirsty Mountains, near the border between Zalawi and Raziya. It overlooks the Valley of Whistling Grass and sits at the southern foot of the Trail of Thirst. Although the village offers various small outfitters, the services of trail guides, and a hostel for wayfarers, traffic along this route is slight enough that the local economy relies more on raising goats than supplying travelers. Another small industry involves collecting lichen from the mountains for medicinal purposes.
The village is chiefly populated by Salawi, with a few families of Sirdabi heritage mixed in. Religious practice is centered around the Azadi faith and worship at the al-Dagur shrine, but some more ancient shamanic practices are also still followed, coexisting peacefully with more orthodox religion.
