Mistmarches
The Archdiocese of the Mistmarches lies in the south of Ensor, a long but narrow border zone between the heartland of the kingdom and the mysterious realm of the Misty Reaches.
The Mistmarches are considered a somewhat inhospitable land by their Southsward neighbors and those accustomed to the more cultivated landscape along the course of the Meander. Although there is productive farmland in the region, it is interspersed with stretches of thick forest, rocky escarpments and gulches, and extensive fenland. Most ominous of all is the western border of the marches, which consists of a shifting expanse of mist beyond which few have dared to venture, and fewer still returned from. The lands beyond, called the Misty Reaches, are utterly unknown and thought of with only the deepest unease, for all that ever emerges from that realm are strange creatures made entirely of mist, and still darker things spoken of only in cautionary tales. The martial order known as the Mistwatch was formed long ago to guard against such threats, and is highly respected by the marchlanders.
In the east the Mistmarches meet the Adelantean Sea, but like the rest of the Ensorian peninsula the coast here mostly consists of steep cliffs and craggy hillsides that prevent easy access to the ocean. However, the region's sole good harbor is a famed one, and sea trade and travel make up the lifeblood of the small but storied port town of St. Loomis.
