The TALK command allows you to speak to people within the same vicinity as you. It works in the same way as the SAY command, except it is largely restricted to the vicinity you are at. Other people outside your vicinity may be able to overhear some part of your speech, but the only people able to fully hear TALK are those who share the same space.

TT (short for tabletalk) is an alias for this command. Other kinds of speech will also automatically default to TALK, restricted to your vicinity. These include: GRUMBLE, MUTTER, MURMUR, and MUMBLE.

TALK or TT also allows you to perform vicinity-specific emotes, simply by adding a colon (:) after the command. You can use the alias TMOTE on its own.

Usage

Speech:

  • TALK <text>
  • GRUMBLE / MUTTER / MURMUR / MUMBLE <text>
  • TT <text>

Emotes:

  • TMOTE <action text>
  • TT: <action text>
  • TALK: <action text>

Notes

  • TALK can be used at any vicinity in a room. The 'general area' of a room also qualifies as its own vicinity.
  • TALK works in the same way as SAY, allowing you to use adverbs, parentheses, and certain smileys. Be warned however that if you use an exclamation mark, you may not be speaking as quietly as you think you are!
  • People outside your vicinity will be able to see what actions you are taking (your tmotes), but they will only be able to hear some of your words, not all of them. Also, to help deal with spam in crowded areas, your communication will be rendered in dark grey text to those outside your vicinity.
  • TMOTE works the same as an EMOTE command in terms of targeting. People who are at your same vicinity will be able to see what you are saying and doing with no difficulty.
