Windhaven Monastery is a Kalentic monastery located in the Ruveran kingdom of Ensor. Its main chapter house and cathedral occupy Windhove Isle in St. Loomis Bay, while the nearby Ladyrock Isle houses the women's monastery and a separate smaller chapel. Windhaven's religious community includes both true monks who practice withdrawal from the world, and friars who preach and actively serve the poor and needy. It is reached by a ferry that plies the treacherous waters between Plew-on-Sea and Windhove Island.

History

Windhaven was founded in the 1st century B.D. by St. Horis, who first used it as a base from which to preach the word of Kalen to the pagan and Yehani peoples of Ensor. As the Kalentic faith spread, Windhaven came to house a small community of both male and female monastics living a life of prayer and meditation, while the village of Plew on the nearby coast became a communal center where new converts could come and learn the ways of the faith. Although Windhaven in its early days was chiefly dedicated to the contemplative life, after the coming of St. Loomis, and in the chaotic aftermath of the Great Dark, the newly revitalized monastery adopted a more active role of service to the surrounding communities.
