Questions about the web client 1 of 5
Jan. 14, 2024, 3:10 a.m.

As a long-time MU*er I am excited to try all these newfangled QOL improvements promised by web integration, but I'm struggling a bit with getting comfortable in the web client because I don't know how to customize the interface or if that's even possible. I'm used to having a lot of control over the environment and behavior in MUSHClient, and I don't dare to hope for that level of customization but I have two main points of discomfort that I'd like to ask about:

1) Is it possible to change the font size (or style for that matter) in the web client? If so how? If not, could that be added or is it prohibited by the way the engine is set up?

2) Is it possible to resize the map and roleplay/gamehelp frame (or customize their output in any other ways, such as swapping whether roleplay is in the "main" or secondary windows, etc), and if not could it be made customizable? I REALLY want to like the roleplay frame feature that allows me to spam help queries without losing my place in the world, but right now the frame is so narrow that it doesn't really help me to get my bearings.

Lastly are there any other ways to customize the web client interface?

Thanks!

There aren't a lot of ways to customize the webclient interface, it's a less user-customizable webclient than the typical Evennia client. We changed it because goldenlayout is prone to problems where users accidentally lose their input boxes or hide the main window behind a side window, and so on.

Eventually we're looking forward to add a lot more snazz and pizzazz to the webclient, but for now if you really like to customize your interface it's probably better to use a client like mudlet or MUSHClient -- things on the website will still be totally usable, like the story system and all that. I usually just have the website in one window on my browser and mudlet in another window, just because I'm very used to mudlet and so far the webclient hasn't surpassed it in ease and familiarity. If I'm playing on my phone though the webclient is handy.

All righty! I look forward to seeing how this evolves over the long term! For now I think back to MUSHClient, though. Thanks for the heads up. :)

I'm not a dev here, but since the webclient is ultimately a webpage, you can use any userstyle browser extensions to customize how it looks. Stylus is one example for Firefox, and there are lots more out there if that's something you still want to try!

Pof Jahzat may not be staff here, but he is the developer behind the base webclient code, Evelite! So, that's pretty good advice and should work if anyone wants to try it. laugh
