The Battle of Thynck

Nearly a week after the fact, a contingent of Mistwatch makes a wearied and battered return to Greywood Keep, along with their news: That on the past Allnight, what had until then been a routine visit to replace a lamp at Thynck turned into a fierce battle with a surging wave of Mist and mistmonsters that threatened to overrun the village. The creatures were finally forced back, but at some cost -- many injured, one Mistwatcher dead, and two lamps damaged past repair. The Master of Lamps herself, having been in the very thick of the fighting, numbered among the wounded. Despite these sobering events, there are still stories of heroism and courage, including of the recruit Tig O'Soaera who rallied the villagers to a spirited defense of their home. And then there's the Mist itself: in the retreat of the monsters, the locals say, it relinquished a few hides of previously enshrouded ground. Not much, perhaps, but every victory counts, and this is counted as one.
