Help Topic: Foraging
Category: Skills -- Help File
Foraging is something that everyone can do, but if you have foraging skill, you can do it a
lot better. If you have the foraging-awareness passive ability gained at the second level of
the foraging skill, you'll be able to see what you might find in any particular room by using
the SURVEY command. This will give you a list of which categories of items are available.
Examples of these categories that can be commonly found in most places are: moss, rock, plant,
stick, and scrap.
However, the local findings for each of those categories might be quite different from zone to
zone, and in different environments. For instance, one might not be able to find a cragpine tree
in Omrazir, and finding wild celery will need to be done in a swamp environment.
Inside of towns, scraps of human leavings might be found -- and in the wilderness, there are
naturally more twigs and types of mosses. If there's water, you might find driftwood. Further,
some categories may only be found in very specific environments, such as the flotsam and seashell
categories on beaches.
There are also even more specific categories that are on very specific rooms, such as ores
that can be found in certain caves or mineshafts, or rare trees that grow only in special places.
Lastly, there are preset items that might be found in specifically marked rooms, such as straw
and manure in stables.
When foraging, you can loosely target one of these categories.
Examples:
> find rock
> find stick
> find ore
> find plant
Foraging too much in one room can lead to the room becoming foraged out, and then you'll need
to forage in another room while that one gradually regenerates over the course of the day.
If there is a specific object you want, you can target more specifically -- this will not
necessarily increase your chances of finding the object, unless you have much higher skill in
foraging, but it will allow you to refrain from finding extra objects that you don't want.
Examples:
> find flint rock
> find mistwood stick
> find iron ore
> find carrot plant
