In order to get basic information about the room you're in, you can use the survey
command. This will get you information depending on your skills (for instance, if
you're a great forager, you'll see more of what might be foraged in an area). It
will also help you understand things like whether there are people around, or if
this is a place where you could find work.

Usage:
survey

If you want to only see whether you can find work, or whether there are people
around, or other options, you can be more specific.

Usage:
check public
check work
check lodging
