Avaria Radio! 1 of 3
Feb. 2, 2025, 4:36 p.m.

With the help of some strangely-willing family members to loan their labor, I have started up an online radio station for Avaria!

Avaria Radio

It includes a mix of music from the regions that are at the heart of Song of Avaria, especially the Middle and Near East, both North and Subsaharan Africa, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, with a few other bits mixed in. The music represents a wide range of styles from traditional to contemporary fusion-style and folktronic music, so it's not meant to represent any particular historical period -- more just to evoke all kinds of sounds and moods from these regions.

Right now, unfortunately, there's nothing to tell you what you're listening to, though I may be able to get something more like an actual station page at some point. This is a partial list of the albums heard on it, though:

This is so neat! I also hope there can be a way eventually for us to see information on what is playing, but the fact that this radio exists as-is is great. :D Thank you for making this, and thank you to your strangely-willing family members as well!

I have found one way to see all the track and artist listings, which is to listen to Avaria Radio using VLC Media Player. You can download it for free, and once it's installed you can:

  1. Go to the Media menu
  2. Select Open Network Stream
  3. Paste the Avaria radio address (http://www.mindtingle.net:8000/avariaradio.ogg) in the box where it says "Please enter a network address."
  4. Click Play

After that the track title and artist should show as a header at the top of the VLC media player. You can also go to View->Playlist, and that will show the album too.

Hope that helps!
