There is a hubbub of conversation about the floggings at the mainmast. It seems that for some reason Ariziya al-Kazid took the flogging intended for Rostam Marzani.. Illi Idir took one of the stripes intended for al-Kazid.. and Iken, the big brute of a man, took his full twenty. There was a great deal of shouting and protest, and a growing sense of discontent among some of the passengers -- with the Captain, and with each other.
