Herbalism 1 of 5
Oct. 3, 2026, 11:01 a.m.

As someone asked about this the other day, I thought I'd provide this list of present issues with Herbalism.

- Help Herbalism does not note the way to view Herbalism recipes, IE: herbalism design view

Tisane - I have attempted every combo known to man of herbs, barks, and flowers through various seasons. I have yet to get this to work. So not sure if that's a tag on the items thing or something with the craft itself.

Anti-Cold Draught - Elderberry Syrup is not currently for sale. So the syrup for sale, and/or the elderberries for sale or harvest and an ability to make said syrup would be awesome!

Burn Cream, Bruise Salve, and Cut Ointment - currently can be crafted as an RP prop (which is real fun!), but they don't use up the ingredients during the crafting proc and attempting to utilize as a treatment causes untapped errors.

Lozenge - Syrup isn't currently for sale (honey doesn't seem to count as a syrup) - So, date syrup? Or rose attar or syrup maybe?

dehydrating 2 of 5

I'm working on dehydrating a pile of dates. I lay them out and the "dissappear" into the crafting code. Will leaving the room disrupt the drying process? Might the eventually dried out fruit suddenly appear around me in some other location when they craft decides to conclude?

Once you get the "OOC: You may now perform another action." You can leave the room. They will continue to dry in the room and over time their description will update to 'dried' - it takes a few minutes from what I've noticed over time. It takes the items from your inventory and prepares them on the floor, so they'll be on the floor when they finish.

So there are not many coded remedies yet. Is that true of other first aid actions as well? Should treating someone ill or injured be mostly role-played?

As far as herbalism remedies go, not only do some fixes need to be implemented, but essentially a whole new batch of Omrazir-centric remedies needs to be put in place, as the existing ones are thematically largely more St. Loomis/European (although obviously there's overlap, thankfully). Unfortunately that takes more than I can do on my own with the code, so expansions to this are likely going to take time.

Regarding other first aid, overall that system is pretty well implemented, though it also needs its fixes and tweaks as well as expansion. But for the most part the health system is reasonably comprehensive, and your roleplay around injury should correspond to what your HEALTH and DIAGNOSIS commands suggest. These should describe wounds and your overall physical condition pretty decently and implement the effects fairly well, so you should be able to rely on them as a basis for RP. So, for instance, if your output says you have a broken bone in your leg, don't RP that your limb is entirely mangled; if your wounds aren't infected don't RP that they are; if you're bleeding lightly, don't RP that your life is gushing out and you're lying in a vast lake of blood. Etc!

If there's some other illness or affliction you'd like to RP about, though, there is the INFLICT/AFFLICT system. INFLICT allows you to create an injury to yourself to go along with something you've RPed about (or would like to); such as maybe you burned yourself badly while cooking, or got drunk and fell down the stairs, or were carrying something heavy and dropped it on yourself, or got kicked by a horse while working in the stables, or anything else like that. Just keep in mind that using it shouldn't be so large-scale dramatic that it's unthematic or infringes on actual in-game lore and events; e.g., don't give yourself a terrible injury and claim that it came about because an invading horde of angrosh was attacking the Nthanda Gate.

You can additionally use the AFFLICT command to place a custom ailment of some kind on yourself, which can even have some coded effects. This could be an illness, an allergic reaction to something, or some chronic condition like arthritis or pain from an old wound, just for a few examples. You can set a duration on the effects, so they can go away over time, or if they're chronic you'll essentially keep them forever.
