I'm really sorry this happened to you! And I hope you come back, read this, and give Song of Avaria another try.

When you first login, you should find yourself in the Faded Zone which is a partially OOC tutorial area where us pre-alpha testers have been yanking each other around, throwing lemonades at one another, and accidentally killing each other all in the name of bug testing. This doesn't excuse behavior that has made you uncomfortable. I'm just trying to frame why that might have happened to you.

This is also the first day of alpha and people are excited while waiting to get their character app approved so I'm sure energy is high. I'm not online right now (boo RL) and I'm just an alpha-tester like you, but if anyone ever makes you uncomfortable, please report them!

If this happened IC on the Greenest Dolphin, though, please disregard everything I just said and just report.

But I think this is a good reminder to us all that even in code testing spaces, we should ask before testing things on other people.

Hi,

That was me. In game, I'm a shadowy vagrant.

We're sorry for frightening you.

CONTACT is just a means of establishing mechanical contact. Let's say you want to emote hugging Bob, but they have specifically sat down at a dark table in the back of the room. If you just stand at the entrance and do EMOTE HUGS ~BOB... it's pretty jarring for poor Bob. Contact will...establish mechanical contact, and cost you time, so you can't also run into the room, hug Bob, and leave before Bob gets a chance to draw his dagger and give ya a stab for invading his personal space. Bob is a mercenary with a dark and tortured mind.

So am I. So when I saw "a bubbly nerd" who ignored my response to them on GameHelp, my initial thought was "aha, this is the first person who's come to troll us" and then later when you walked into the room, I used TACKLE. I'm not totally against people who just want to roll into the game to mess around with the mechanics and punch each other -- but in case you were a troll, I wanted to let you know that I was onto you! That's also why when you just walked out, I teleported to you and tried to give you a chance to explain. However, I came off as pretty aggressive and hostile due to my unfair assumptions (It's only because of Mistsparrow keeping me in check that this game is good at all).

Probably you are just a confused newbie who wasn't even subscribed to the GameHelp channel, and maybe you just didn't realize that "nerd" would be an anachronistic descriptor given the medieval setting! So, I apologize. I should've assumed the best about you but I'm on guard and I don't want the experience of the game to be disturbed by a potential troll, for those who are attempting to enjoy it despite all the bugs. heart

If you're bothered by the thought that people might physically contact your character without your OOC consent, then this game probably is not the game for you. CONTACT is just a way to establish mechanical contact, as is TACKLE or other grappling commands. There are even socials like HUG that will establish contact. The whole point of contact is that it lessens the shock to immersion when someone emotes physical proximity your character and they are not actually next to you in order to do something like SHOVE them away.

If on the other hand you are actually okay with being TACKLE'd if it was an understandable in-character situation, and you're willing to forgive me for assuming the worst, and you want to work together to make a less anachronistic character, you're welcome to do so.

Even if this game is not the game for you, I'm sorry both for startling and scaring you, and for assuming the worst about your intentions.
