Omrazir Wish List 1 of 10

Now I've been playing for a while, there are a few things I'm (relatively?) certain aren't out there in the big beautiful sprawl of Omrazir that I'd love to see! I know making shops is a ton of work so this is not meant to be any pressure, just player perspective on things that would delight me.

Love to see other people's lists too!

TEACHERS/CRAFTING:

  • Acrobatics teacher (really missed an important skill in chargen there... I thought 'acrobatics' meant like, doing flips. I've been too embarrassed to own up to this one ICly and ask for a lesson)  Ighlaf, my savior!
  • Tanning equipment in the tannery, and a leatherworking teacher would be great too! I'd love to play around with my pile of hides.  Added! Woohoo!

SHOPS:

  • Furniture in the carpenter's shop, like trunks, shelves, etc - really useful for organizing rooms when you're a hoarder;
  • More options at the produce shop for more variability in cooking (I think the recipes exist?);  Foraging AND shops have added these! Awesome!
  • Art supply store - palettes, basic paint colors, charcoal, etc.
  • A scrap shop selling scraps + wretched odds and ends you can turn into scraps for tinkering. I've been able to scrap bandages for fabric but have struggled to find scraps of other materials. And everything I own is battered because I'm dumb and keep fighting jackals. (This could also double as a pawn shop, buying random things very cheap and reselling them outrageously.)
  • Drug store. I plead the Fifth. No more Fifth but I still want a drug store (for the legal drugs).

RP/MISC:

To be honest this grid is incredible for RP locations and hideyholes, so there's almost nothing I feel is 'missing' on the RP side. But...

  • A bank in the Bazaar, I do 90% of my buying there and keep having to run back and forth all the way to the wharf. Maybe off the Info Center?
  • A room for the research system, so I can inflict a large number of IC writings on the world;  Muahaha. I'm working on it!
  • More of an Amunati district off Ruhani Row, since they're such a neat culture and they have such a distinct visual style. Would love in particular an Amunati formal garden or something, as that's generally an RP space I haven't found.
  • Pure indulgence and at the bottom of my list: More old ruins/secrets, especially caves, underground stuff, etc. I'm sure I haven't found them all yet, though.

WILDERNESS/FORAGING:

Pending actual ability to mess around with things like foraging, anyway! I'm not sure what there is hard-coded vs. what builders can do.

  • Would love to see some areas of slightly more varied biome where it makes sense, because I get unreasonably excited about foraging in rooms of different types. I know that's a BIG lift, though, and the skeleton of the wilderness is huge.  This is well underway and improving all the time!
  • Being able to forage clays of different colors would be super cool so we could have some variability with clay without needing custom clayforms. I know there's yellow clay somewhere but having white and purpleish would be awesome. So many colors of clay! White and/or purple-ish would still be cool but I cannot remotely complain about the nifty variety we have now.

PS. It took me a while to adjust to this grid's challenges (I am spatially incompetent) but now that I have, I love it to death. Thanks for the incredible amount of hard work that clearly went into building it!

+1 to drug access! Though certainly not in the form of a store. If everybody and their mum can waltz into Ye Olde Narcotiques and buy illicit stuff I will weep for my immersion.

I think it should probably be gated behind things like Shady Arts, Street Smarts, criminal reputation, and even story arcs, so that characters who have invested heavily into the Rotten Crook role can have an opportunity to play it.

I do recognise that the same could be said of any craft/skill, and there is a game population issue to consider when it comes to accessibility. But I don't think said issue extends to something like drugs; there should be a degree of exclusivity that requires making the right contacts and connections, even if the game population were at an all-time high.

There are a lot of legal drugs! I agree anything seriously shady should be gated for the reasons you mention, though.

Nodding alongside those and the gating. Or skills are required to search it out etc. (finding hidden stuff is fun)

Mostly commenting towards that any npc can teach if they have the skill, so you are able to ask with the command 'ask about learning acrobatics' or any other skill and pester a bunch o' em about it if they do teach. It costs 50 and 'learn check acrobatics' will inform how much exp is needed (or petition to ask, heyyy might someone give a bit of lessons  around town if you wanna rp it)

I did get a bit of giggles coming across a character learning acrobatics in the town square a year or so past, though the acrobatics does govern climbing I was imagining some more hilarious movements.

I did try asking a few random guards about acrobatics, but no NPC I've found can do it (or leatherworking) thus far! I SHOULD ask a PC but it just feels so silly to have zero ranks in the equivalent of an Athletics skill on an outdoorsman PC I have... just tried not to RP about it...

There is an npc out there so your hopes aren't lost (for the acrobatics one) and I don't think it is silly! It could always be roleplayed as wanting to improve and skip past the not having any as the teacher can't tell what level is someone is at, but sometimes with hindsight we go...whoops.

I think skill level only comes into play for teaching as it requires 4 levels in a skill to do.

There was a black market in St Loomis where people could fence illicit goods and things, is there something like that in Omrazir yet? Theoretically that might be where you get some of the drugs. Although I'm not sure drugs are actually illegal, there's probably like opium dens and things just in less savory parts of town...

Also yeah it does seem like acrobatics is not an ability that randomly generates at high-enough-to-teach levels for most NPCs. We should probably have some street performers or shady cat burglars lurking in alleys or something.

There are several places a black market COULD go, but to the best of my knowledge at least no actual room for it exists just yet.

But there is one permanent acrobatics teacher at least in a location that makes sense and is guessable!

This gave me impetus to update my list from the initial post, and it was very neat to see how much of it's already been added. Awesome work, staff!

There are both legal and illegal, controlled and uncontrolled drugs according to the wiki. I thought we were talking the illegal kind higher up in the thread because somebody was pleading the fifth but I'll never say who that was, officer, I saw nothing.

On the subject of a black market! I recently requested somewhere to fence things (not a high priority I understand, just would be neat) but something that would also be cool to have is a more general pawn shop to sell random crap that isn't illicit. I understand some store types will buy specific things (e.g. animal parts at the wild meat market) but a place to sell things like... old clothes, weapons, armour, tools, equipment, props, and even furniture you don't want or need would be awesome. I don't know if current code takes things like item condition into account, but lower prices for more damaged items makes sense. No idea whether this poses any really meaningful risk to the game economy but you could also slap a daily sale limit or something on there if so.

Adding to my wishlist, in terms of even larger-scale things that I recognise would take immense amounts of work: rooftops. I woud loooove more rooftop access in general. I wanna Thieves Highway across the city!

Yeah, a dedicated pawn shop is definitely on my list of things to add to Omrazir, along with some lower-class shops that do resale of PC-sold items in addition to selling new goods (the clothing shop in St. Loomis was like this). The Bazaar of the Nine Winds is just generally the classiest and most guild-regulated of markets in Omrazir, so shops like that would mostly be located elsewhere in the city. I'm also planning on having some places in the White City's Pearl Street Bazaar especially to sell OOCly new but ICly "used" items that have a lot of obvious wear and are generally junky. People should be able to proudly dress like hobos and vagrants if they want to!

As far as the rooftop thing goes, I am waaaaaaaay ahead of you on that one. 😎 ... In planning, but obviously not in implementation. 😂 Omrazir's original plan, since I was first envisioning it a full decade ago, has been for it to have a full extra "top" layer of rooftops, walls, actual walkways, and other elevated spaces that exist above the base ground level of the city. (Of course it's not just for thieves and Persons of Ill Repute, though; lots of people use their rooftops and many walkways are perfectly legit.) So someday it should be possible to navigate across broad expanses of the city largely above the ground. But yes, that is obviously a huge project of significant complexity, and one that also requires more of the city to be filled in first, so while this is very much a part of the future vision for Omrazir it's going to take some time to realize.

On the same note, there should also be a much more expanded Omrazir underground someday. Though right now there is only one small underground area in-game, ICly there are many more down there, just as ICly there is a full lush and lovely oasis readily accessible just outside of town which one day I will actually finish OOCly building. Like some of the planned rooftop access points, however, entries to underground locations will often be at least a little bit hidden (as the current one is).

Besides this, another layer of complexity should eventually be added that goes with the time changes, where there may be things and places that are visible or accessible only at certain times of the day/night.

TLDR; Essentially Omrazir is meant to be practically a full world in itself someday, but it is so very much ALPHA right now. 😢
