26-01-03 20: 50:18-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: It's two things - one, whether you're in a room that's marked public or not, public rooms you will always show up with your current location on where. Two, there's a setting in your config that you can turn on or off, that determines whether your name is on the list at all if you're not in a public room (If the setting is on, like I have, it'll show your name and last known location when you're in a room not marked public. If the setting is off, your name simply drops off of "where" altogether when you move to a room not marked public)

26-01-03 20: 51:07-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: Actually three things - if you are disguised but in public you also will not necessarily show up, but I am not 100% sure how that one works, because I have seen people on the list who are in disguise before
26-01-03 20: 51:25-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: Oh! Four things lol, yep, if you are hidden/sneaking I think you also don't show up
26-01-03 20: 53:06-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: It's mostly just meant to be an aid to finding RP, but you can consider it "in character knowledge" because if someone is in public, theoretically you could ask random people if anyone's seen them and maybe find out where they are. A bit handwavey, but I feel it's helpful on a somewhat large map so that you don't have to walk all over the city to find people :)
26-01-03 20: 53:36-05 [-] a statuesque female with coppery-red hair: I appreciate it being there because having played a few games like this in the past, wandering blindly around a massive city hoping to find one of the 5 people online can kind of suck.
26-01-03 20: 54:42-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: Yeah, I have had similar experiences, so I also like having it heh
26-01-03 20: 55:52-05 [-] a rawboned, sandy-haired lad: Just as a side note, my current location should not actually be private, it's a public street/intersection - Mistsparrow has said that the default when building is for rooms to be private, and some get missed, so if you come across a room like this where it's clearly public but your name drops off of "where" when you're in it, you can use the TYPO command to report it and it'll get fixed up :)
