Are there any symbols in the various cultures of the Caliphate that are considered lucky? Unlucky? What about lucky/unlucky numbers?

The key of harmony and the closed eye are the two universally lucky or protective symbols across the caliphate. The key of harmony is drawn with three teeth and a circular bow divided into thirds, or sometimes sixths. The closed eye is a simple oval with eyelashes fringing the bottom edge. Conversely, an open eye is an extremely dangerous symbol. An eye with a sidelong gaze is used as a curse, but an eye with a direct stare is the most dangerous of all, as it appears to encompass within its gaze anyone who looks at it. Six and seven are the luckiest numbers in the caliphate. Six represents the six-pointed star and the six fundamentals of the Azadi faith, while seven stands for the unity of those fundamentals in the form of the Azadi community. Seven is also the number of perfect musical tones. Eleven is generally an unlucky or at least potentially dangerous number, indicating things beyond, and is often associated with the Otherland. Numerology is important to different strands of magical practice and many other numbers also have deep symbolism, but much of this would be more abstruse knowledge, whereas "everyone" knows about the power of six, seven, and eleven. |
